Katakana!

A few days ago, I had the opportunity to learn a little bit about the Japanese written language Katakana. A lady that goes to my church is from the island and is a wonderful teacher (patient too!). We had lots of fun and she even helped us do a little bit of writing. Now, I am sure that to a local person, these characters look quite "kindergarten-ish," but it was fun! The Japanese have several forms of these characters...somewhat like Uppercase, Lowercase and Cursive to our language. They have Kanji, which is beautiful and artistic, Hiragana that is less ornate and then Katakana which is much more simplified. I have been told that their are over 3000 charaters of Japanese language that children have to learn in school! Makes our 26 not look so bad, eh? I would give you a link to Wikipedia on the matter but for the life of me, I can't get blogger to allow me to do that correctly. So, if you are interested in learning more..head on over!

On the top left that is "Dana" on the top right is "Cathryn" in the middle is "Jensen" then the three underneath that are staggered are "Andrew, Logan and Joshua."

Andrew has been trying to write "Japanese" since we walked off the plane. He was excited to have some real characters to work with now! I think he did a great job trying to copy what mom had learned.

The Japanese language is as beautiful as their culture!

How amazing I would totally frame that! Wow.

I think it looks great... I agree with nicole - worthy of framing. Sounds like it would be alot of fun to learn a little.

What a great opportunity that most of us will never have or take advantage of! It looks great.
