It was only 6 years ago that we began the adventure known as "dental school."Time went by fast, and before we knew it:
Dana was graduating Dental School and swearing in for the Air Force. We thought that we might just be in for a quick 3 years. But....
Three years turned into four when we decided that a residency program in Nebraska would be a good idea. Dana learned a lot at residency but the two primary pieces of knowledge were:
1. He really liked Oral Surgery
and
2. He really liked the Air Force
So, we moved to Okinawa for what we thought was going to be three years. Dana has been enjoying work because he does surgery 4 days a week. I have been enjoying life because we have been on a paid tropical vacation for the past 14 months (that is Dana on the left).
Then Dana took a test or two and did an interview or two and was offered this:
A slot for the 2009 Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery program at a stateside airbase. And you know what? He accepted it.We are comin' home!
P.s. You know that quick 3 years we were going to do in the Air Force? Well, that just turned into 11. Sweet Mercy, someone give me some chocolate!

Waaaah! I'm not liking this news. But I am happy for your family to be stateside--in a house with a little yard. Still, I will be so sad to see you go already.

Congrats to you and Dana! It is also the wife that is part of the AF and dental programs!!! Where will you guys be and when does it start? We are headed to San Antonio next July and I would love it if you guys were there, too! Rich was pretty excited for Dana when I showed him your blog. So exciting!
what? are you guys leaving early? i'm so happy for you. i know that's what dana really wanted. remind me to give you some chocolate next time i see you. just think of all that american food you'll be able to enjoy soon.
We will be going to Travis AFB in California. We are guessing some time in May but of course will have to wait and see what the orders say.

WOW! I can't wait to tell Mark. If I would have let him he might have thought of doing this residency, but he is so anxious to be his own boss :) Congratulations! We have some great friends at Travis. Good luck to everyone ;)

We couldn't be more thrilled!!! Christian will love having his cousins living closer to home! Congratulations Dana, this is a huge feat! And Cathryn, I think and equal amount of congratulations goes to you for being such a wonderful wife and being so supportive! We can't wait to see all of you!

Wow! I guess I'm far behind in my blog reading... just saw it and had to comment! Congrats! What an awesome adventure of a life you guys get! I'm sure you will have so much fun in Cali... though your Japan adventure sure seems like it's been amazing. I'm glad you guys will be coming back to the USA... if we're out your way sometime we will for sure have to meet up.
I'm sure glad you're stayin in. That's good news for me. I'm sure I'll run into you a few more times before I leave the island, but we'll be sure and see you at the next station! Look me up when you get there. Target here I come! I'm ready for some binge shopping!
